Agricultural Services
Genetic services in agriculture generally focus on larger operations such as cattle and wheat and are only cost effective when processing many samples. This makes it difficult for smaller scale farms to have access to genetic services such as selective breeding and identifying genetic traits.
We can work on any scale, from a few selected samples to thousands and any type of livestock and crop. We can develop a range of genetic tests for your farming enterprise. Whether it is milk protein yield, salt tolerance, adult weight prediction, disease detection, we design custom genetic tests for a range of animals and plants.
See below for some genetic service examples we offer, but if you don’t see what you are after, let us know so we can find a novel solution.
Genetic traits
We can identify which animals or plants have genetic traits of interest, such as disease resistance, fur colour, salt tolerance, and disease susceptibility.
Parentage
Using genotyping, we can build family trees and do pedigree analyses for breeding programs.
Environmental Interaction
We can generate genetic data sets to identify livestock and crops that are best suited to different environmental conditions.
Stress detection
In both livestock and crops we can test for overall health and stress to give indication of crop yield and animal wellbeing.
Pest detection
Using our environmental DNA and forensic methods, we can identify pests within your crops, before they become a major issue.
Soil health
We can determine the biodiversity of the soil to give you measure of the overall health and what is living in the soil. This includes microbes, insects, and fungi.
Substance Testing
The table lists the substances that can be tested from water, soil, and fertiliser. A range of water, soil, and fertiliser sample types can be processed. Below is an overview of some of the sample types.
· Potable
· Process
· Groundwater
· Fresh and Marine
· Wastewater
· Soil
· Fertiliser
Other sample types may be able to be processed, let us know what samples you need processed and what other types of substances you need tested.
Spatial mapping of the nutrients and microbes can be done to identify regions within paddocks that are nutrient and microbial poor and where pests may be localised. This can reduce expenses on fertilisers and spraying.
